Universal topological quantum computation in a classically simulable

anyon model



We explore the use of topological defects for quantum computation;
specifically, we present a protocol for universal quantum computation
through the braiding of twist defects in a double-layer ising anyon
model. The braiding of anyons in this model is known to be efficiently
simulable on a classical computer. We also discuss implementation of
this scheme in the Kitaev honeycomb model.
