Welcome Pizza & Theory Group Photo

Monday, Oct 5 at 3pm @ QI area

Theoretical Physics Group is going to kick off a new series of informal seminars and meetings for 2015/16.

The meetings will run on Mondays 3-4pm. The first meeting, including a welcome pizza and taking of the group photo, will be on October 5 in the QI area.

All members of the Theoretical Physics Group as well as the affiliated project students are kindly invited to attend.

Congratulations to Dr Jiannis Pachos from Theoretical Physics group in the School, who has received the Supervisor Award at the Partnership Awards Ceremony on 27th April 2015.

The Supervisor Award recognises, 'the person who has guided and inspired others to push the boundaries of their dissertation, final year project and PhD thesis.' The award ceremony was hosted by Leeds University Students Union and acknowledges achievements for staff and students across a broad range, from Innovation to Outreach.

Once again, congratulations to Jiannis.




Welcoming Dr Papic

The School of Physics and Astronomy is happy to welcome Dr Zlatko Papic to the department as a member of the recently formed Theoretical Physics group led by Dr Almut Beige.

Zlatko has joined the school from the Perimeter Institute in Canada where he was a postdoctoral fellow. He obtained his PhD from Universite Paris-Sud in 2010 and subsequently worked at Princeton University as a postdoctoral researcher (2010-2013). 

He is a condensed matter theorist with a broad interest in quantum many-body systems. His research focuses on topological phases, graphene, fractional quantum Hall effect, quantum information concepts such as entanglement and matrix-product states/tensor networks used to describe condensed matter systems and nonequilibrium dynamics of interacting quantum disordered systems.

The School is looking forward to working closely with Zlatko and helping to develop his research further.
